About the Book
Born and Bred in Myanmar explores the lives and struggles of rural youths who must work from an early age to support their families. Each story captures the quiet resilience, hardship, and hope of those striving for education and opportunity in a society that often overlooks them.
Although set in the 1980s, these stories remain deeply relevant, reflecting the experiences of young people in rural Myanmar today.

About the Book
In 2024, Sarpaylawka Publishing House acquired the translation rights to The Forest of Enchantments, a modern retelling of the Ramayana from Sita’s point of view. The Ramayana has shaped art, moral values, and storytelling across South and Southeast Asia for centuries, known regionally as Yama Zatdaw in Myanmar, Ramakien in Thailand, Reamker in Cambodia, and Hikayat Seri Rama in Malaysia and Indonesia.
This new translation reimagines Sita not only as a symbol of devotion but as a woman of agency, choice, and courage. By giving voice to Sita’s story, the book connects timeless cultural roots with contemporary perspectives, continuing Sarpaylawka’s mission to introduce literary works that bridge heritage and modern understanding.

About the Book
In 2023, Sarpaylawka Publishing House acquired the translation rights to Asura: Tale of the Vanquished by Anand Neelakantan. The novel reimagines the Ramayana from the perspective of Ravana, the often-misunderstood antagonist of the epic. Across India and Southeast Asia, the Ramayana has long been told as a story of divine victory — but this version gives voice to the defeated, exploring power, justice, and destiny from the side history rarely honors.
Ravana’s story holds special resonance in Southeast Asia, where local versions of the Ramayana from Myanmar’s Yama Zatdaw to Thailand’s Ramakien and Cambodia’s Reamker portray him not only as a demon king but also as a learned ruler, musician, and devotee. By bringing Asura to Myanmar readers, Sarpaylawka continues its commitment to presenting world literature that challenges traditional narratives and encourages readers to see ancient epics through new moral and cultural lenses.
